We started off the new year with a bang! New Year's Day we found a rubbish for the Hardle family and caught some nice mahi-mahi. Day two it was the Mullin family's turn to load up. Brian had a mystery bite on the 16w baiting rat mahi-mahi. Turned out to be a really nice Ahi! We wish everyone good fishing and full boxes in the new year!

North Shore Hanapa'a Fishing Tournament

Here is some photos from the North Shore Hanapa'a Jackpot fishing tournament.

The two day tournament was held on July 12 ^th and 13 ^th out of our home port Haleiwa Harbor. The grand prize is for total weight. On day one of the tournament we had local residents, the Pohina family, charter the boat and participate in the tournament. We had two Ahi bites on the first day. We pulled hooks on the first one, and landed an 81.5# Ahi. 81.5 points is not much for a two day total weight tournament, but it is points on the board. with no charters scheduled for day 2, the crew consisted of our full time deck hand Eric, my old friend Rob, and I. We started off our morning by catching a nice sized ono. About 8am we land a small blue marlin. The crew is feeling good cause that is some decent points on the board. We catch another ono heading into deeper water. At about 9:30 am we catch a 96# Ahi. The crew is pumped cause we are one fish away from getting a clean sweep. There is a prize payout for the team that catches all of the flag fish: Ono, Marlin, Ahi, and Mahi. My friend Burt, captain of the Tuia, is the only boat that I have seen in the area all day. He calls to see what we are catching. I tell him about our catch and mention that we are looking for a Mahimahi to complete a clean sweep. It turns out that he is only two miles away, and that he is fishing around a small crate that is holding mahimahi. In exchange for the location of where we caught our Ahi, he agrees to wait at the crate so that we might catch a mahi mahi. I pick up the binos and can see him two miles away. When we get closer we see Burt pointing in the water at the crate. The mahi have stopped biting trolling lures, so we set out dead bait, and instanty catch a 26 lbs mahimahi completing the clean sweep. At this point we were heading downsea in idle, packing the Mahimahi in the fishbox, when the outrigger takes off Screaming. With line peeling off the reel, we know its a big fish. In a few minutes we boat a nice 120# ahi. At this moment we realize that we may be in the running for the grand prize, and we still have 2 and a half hours to fish. We didnt get any more bites, but were super happy to catch a clean sweep. As it turned out, we won the grand prize for total weight with a small margin of 40 lbs. We also took home the clean sweep award, for a total of 10 grand in prize money. Our total weight for the two day tournamnt was 463 lbs. We caught 3 Ahi, 1 marlin, 1 mahimahi, and 2 ono

Capt. Freed, Capt. AJ, Jay, and Jarret fished the Westside Ahi tournament June 17, and 18, out of Waianae harbor. We brought the boat to the Leeward coast to fish out of Waianae Harbor. On day 1 of the tournament we caught a 142# Ahi that took 2nd place, and a $5,100 payday! we also caught some nice size onos. We would have placed 2nd in the Ono category with a 32#, but each boat is allowed to win one prize per day.

we got them tight on the bucket list fish in short order, and caught some dinner fish! Altogether they caught 2 Ulua, 2 Kahala, Omilu, Kawakawa, Uku, and a Kagami.

Our first charter back after the corona virus lockdown! JC chartered the boat with his friends and his father in law. They caught a nice size ono before JC's father in law got sea sick and decided to call it a day. After filleting up the ono for JC's crew, Captain Freed headed back out with his friends Josh and Rob, and caught three Ahi and a mahimahi! Not bad for a late start! The fish did real well at the auction in Honolulu.

The Pamela Pearl has switched to Commercial fishing with family members while there are restrictions in place due to the Corona Virus. Joey and Captain Freed caught Their first Ahi of the year and a nice Mahi-mahi! It is a tradition to cut up and share the first Ahi of the year with friends and family. This one weighed about 175 lbs

Tom and his wife are a fishing couple visiting from Alaska. They caught some good size tuna, the bigger one weighing 74 lbs. They even kept a 50lbs tuna away from the sharks!

What an action packed day for Brian and friends! On the way out we got a double Striped Marlin strike! One came off and we put the other one in the box! At the buoy we caught a bunch of shibis! On the way in we got another marlin bite, but that one threw the hook.

Some bigger fish moved in for Michael, and his friends! We started off light tackle fishing with a standup harness catching smaller yellowfin. When the bigger tuna showed up we put the light tackle away. The bigger tuna weighed in at over 72 lbs (without the gills and guts). We remove the gill and guts from the tuna as soon as it is caught in order to make sushi grade fish. When these tunas get over 100 lbs we call them Ahi. When they are under 100 lbs we call them Shibi.

The Buoy fishing was not so hot, so we made our way closer to shore. We caught a 21 lbs skipjack (Aku) along the way. A little while later, we got a 200+ lbs blue marlin! We got some awesome gopro footage of the marlin before releasing it. On the way in we did some bottom fishing and got a good size Amberjack (Kahala)

Joe and his family from Michigan went for a half day fishing trip on the Pearl. They caught a good size stripped Marlin on light tackle! They also caught a yellowfin for their Christmas dinner!

Andrew, Sam and friends got some action on the Pearl! They locked into a good sized blue marlin, and brought it all the way to the boat before it broke line. Some decent size Mahi mahi made it aboard.
